An annual 'mansion tax' on homes worth more than £2 million has been rejected by MPs. The motion by Labour was halted after both Conservative and Liberal Democrat MPs combined to defeat the proposals by 63 votes after a commons debate.

This is unlikely to be the end of calls to introduce the new tax after Business Secretary, Vince Cable MP was quoted as saying that Ed Miliband MP had 'copied' their policy. He went on to explain: "We created it and continue to champion it."
