Help to Buy attracts 2,384 applications in one month
More than 2,000 people have put in offers on homes under the Help to Buy scheme, totalling £365 million of new mortgage lending. According to official figures, ten applications have completed.
Almost a quarter of those using the Help to Buy scheme already own a property and they are not buying a home for the first time. According to a report in The Times, 550 applications through RBS, NatWest and Halifax have come from existing homeowners.
Prime Minister David Cameron is pleased with the scheme and how it has gone so far. He said: "The best thing about Help to Buy isn't the statistics - it's who is really benefiting. Most Help to Buy applicants are first-time buyers, young and have a roughly average household income."
