Halifax mortgages not always the cheapest in the market

Halifax is one of the UK’s most popular mortgage lenders offering a range of competitively priced fixed rates, although their mortgages are not always the lowest in the market.

The lender isn’t generally far away from the best buy tables, but its business model isn’t setup to undercut the likes of Virgin Money and Santander.

Over the last few weeks a host of banks and building societies have lowered their already impressively priced mortgages. The two and five-year fixes in particularly have been improved the most.

Aaron Strutt, product manager at Trinity Financial, says: "Halifax rates might be slightly more expensive than some of the other lenders, but their acceptance is typically more generous. The bank will often lend where others won’t.

“Over the last few years many of the mortgage lenders have tighten their lending policies, although Halifax hasn’t clamped down quite so much. Interest-only is still an issue, but generally speaking their more niche lending rules are still in place.”

Premier underwriting

Trinity Financial has access to Halifax’s Premier Underwriting Team and their mortgage processing and service times are among the best in the industry. If clients are looking to secure a mortgage of over £300,000 and up to £5million, our brokers will be able to call and speak directly to their underwriters.

Halifax for Intermediaries is offering a two-year fixed rate at 2.04% and it is available for mortgages between £200,000 and £1million. The APR is 4.2%.

Borrowers will need a 40% deposit to access this rate and it has a £1,499 arrangement fee. After the fixed rate period, the mortgage reverts to the lenders standard variable rate, currently 3.99%.

If you are looking to remortgage to Halifax the lender offers a free property valuation and legal switching service for many of its mortgages. This helps to keep the cost of remortgaging to a minimum.
