Mortgage lenders are still offering fantastically priced fixed and tracker rate mortgages although borrowers currently need bigger deposits to qualify.

Halifax for Intermediaries has the most competitively priced two-year fixed rates at 1.14%. After the fixed period the mortgage reverts to the lenders 3.59% standard variable rate. The overall cost for comparison is 3.3% APRC.

Applicants will need a 40% deposit to qualify and there is a £1,499 arrangement fee. The minimum loan size is £250,000 and the maximum loan size is £1 million.

Aaron Strutt, product director at Trinity Financial, says: "Lots of the lenders are still offering cheap fixed rates to borrowers planning to purchase properties or remortgage.

"There are six lenders offering five-year fixed-rate mortgages below 1.50% and they typically have £999 arrangement fees. Click here to view our latest mortgage best buy table."
