Co-operative Bank stops offering mortgages directly to new customers

The Co-operative Bank has stopped providing mortgages directly to new customers applying to the bank.

In a statement it announced plans to provide more residential and buy-to-let mortgages through Platform for Intermediaries its broker-only lending arm.

The Co-op offered a range of mortgages but its lending figures were particularly low compared to Platform, although it will continue to help its existing mortgage borrowers.

Aaron Strutt, product director at Trinity Financial, says: “It is a shame another lender has disappeared from the market, especially as the bank owns Britannia and it also pulled out of mortgage lending.

“Platform for Intermediaries has improved as a lender in recent years and regularly offers highly competitive fixed and tracker mortgages. Trinity uses the bank and has been happy with the service it provides.”
