Base rate stays at 0.5%

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee has kept base rate at 0.5% for February.  The Committee also voted to maintain the stock of asset purchases financed by the issuance of central bank reserves at £375 billion. According to a report in The Sunday Times, the shadow MPC was expected to call for a 0.25% base rate increase this week, the first time since September 2011. February 8, 2013
