High street banking giant Barclays is offering its Premier Customers up to 5.5 times salary mortgages for a limited period.

Initially its enhanced income multiple offer was due to be withdrawn at 5 pm on 31 December 2015. Although it has been extended until 31 January 2016.

The bank is increasing the maximum income multiple for selected applications from five-times salary to 5.5 times salary. It is also removing the annual bonus cap used for affordability calculations for Premier clients earning more than £150,000.

Aaron Strutt, product manager at Trinity Financial, says: “Many of the high-street banks and building societies will lend between four and five-times salary, they do not regularly offer mortgages over five-times.

“One small building society potentially offering to lend six-times income - although the lender has some rather strict acceptance criteria.”
