Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed both Aldermore Bank and Virgin Money will start to offer Help to Buy mortgages later this month. Both lenders previously suggested that they would join the scheme from 2014, but they should now both launch their 5% deposit mortgages before the New Year.

Earlier this week, Santander for Intermediaries announced that they would be launching 5% deposit mortgages through the second phase of the Help to Buy scheme in early January.

Aaron Strutt, product manager at Trinity Financial, says: "More lenders are set to join the Help to Buy scheme early next year and first-time buyers will have a lot of options if they want to get a mortgage. The second phase of the scheme is not limited to new build properties and it has a particularly generous maximum loan size of £600,000."
