The Times - Child benefit cuts put mortgages at risk

Aaron Strutt Image
Aaron Strutt, of Trinity Financial, told The Times: “The new benefit changes are likely to have an effect on some borrowers applying for mortgages, especially if they are already finding it difficult to meet tough affordability calculations and their income is tight. “It is not that they will be declined for a mortgage with these changes, but the amount they are able to borrow may be lower. This could be bad news for anyone looking to buy a family home for the first time, upsize or remortgage if they are right at the lower limits of the minimum income required by lenders."
