The Times - One in six buyers could be overpaying on stamp duty
Property buyers could be overpaying billions of pounds a year on stamp duty.
The Times report that Cornerstone Tax, the leading experts in Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) has launched SDLT Refunds. It is a specialist division created to meet the demand from consumers who could have overpaid SDLT in the last four years.
David Hannah, principle consultant and founder, Cornerstone Tax said: “In recent years the confusion among private and corporate property buyers, as well as their various advisors, with regards to the correct calculation of SDLT owed to the treasury has been alarming.
“The continuing spike of incoming enquiries that we at Cornerstone Tax are receiving has driven us to open SDLT Refunds, a specialist division dedicated solely to the management of SDLT refunds on behalf of those who have bought properties in the last four years.”
Aaron Strutt, product director at Trinity Financial, told The Times: “Many borrowers still find the stamp duty system difficult to understand, particularly when they are buying another home or they have a portfolio of properties.”
