The Times - Buying a new home? Avoid the snag of a cheap survey
Tens of thousands of homebuyers each year risk moving in to new-builds with structural problems if they rely on the cheap “quickie” valuations offered by lenders.
More of the lenders are offering desktop valuations including Santander, Barclays, TSB and Nationwide for Intermediaries.
Aaron Strutt, a broker at Trinity Financial, told The Times: “These valuations do help to cut costs and they speed up mortgage offer times, but in many cases it is worth spending the money for a full check. A free valuation on its own may not be adequate and a proper inspection gives you a better understanding of what you are buying.”
