The Sunday Times - Bank turns down the 'perfect borrowers'
HSBC, Britain’s biggest bank, is introducing a range of market-leading deals for first-time home buyers tomorrow, but it has been accused of turning down “perfect” customers just because they do not have other products with the bank.
Aaron Strutt of Trinity Financial, the broker, said: “The latest lending figures for last year show that HSBC was down the list as only the seventh biggest lender [based on outstanding balances], despite dominating the best-buy tables with the most competitive rates. The only explanation is that thousands of credit-worthy borrowers have not met their tough lending criteria.”
