Give your finances a January detox to take advantage of the top deals — and don’t forget to file your tax return

The average tracker mortgage rate is down from 2.88% a year ago to 2.17% today, according to Moneyfacts. The average two-year fixed rate is down from 3.54% to 3.34%.

Aaron Strutt at the mortgage broker Trinity Financial suggests that those who are at the end of a mortgage deal should look to take advantage. He said: “Many borrowers are still sitting on their lenders’ standard variable rates and there are huge savings to make by switching to one of the best-buy rates today.”
