The Sunday Times - Lenders clamp down on portable mortgages
Homeowners are being penalised by lenders who refuse to let them take their mortgages with them when moving to another property.
Millions of homeowners took out loans on the understanding they could be “ported” in the event of a move — but banks are now often refusing, blaming new lending rules that came into force in April.
Aaron Strutt of the broker Trinity Financial said: “At the moment, some borrowers are being declined because their finances have changed, or the lender does not like the property.”
