The Sunday Times - First-time buyers face the bad old days of 5% interest

From Tuesday, Lloyds Bank and Halifax will offer 10 per cent deposit mortgage again. Halifax's two-year fixed-rate mortgage is priced at 3.54 per cent and the five-year deal is 3.59 per cent, both with a £995 fee.

First-time buyers with mild adverse credit face paying more than 5 per cent interest for home loans as lenders push up the cost of borrowing for people with smaller deposits. 

The last time the average cost of 90 per cent mortgages was this high was in January 2013.
