Some mortgages remain hard to secure, freelance and contract workers can find it even tougher to bag a deal as lenders often pick the most reliable borrowers with steady incomes. Aaron Strutt at the broker Trinity Financial said Halifax could be flexible provided the contractor had a healthy credit history. For workers earning more than £500 a day, or £75,000 a year, it will accept the gross value of the contract as evidence of income. “Halifax offers contractors with a good credit score a two-year fix at 1.89%. It is available for mortgages between £200,000 and £1m and has a £1,499 arrangement fee. Borrowers need 40% deposits,” Strutt said.
