The Sunday Times - Homebuyers face rise in fixed-rate mortgages

Banks have been pushing up the cost of popular fixed-rate mortgages for new customers, hitting homebuyers and those about to remortgage.

Aaron Strutt, of Trinity Financial, said: "Swap rates have been climbing in recent weeks, putting pressure on fixed-rate mortgages. Also, the mortgage market review will force lenders to spend more time assessing each application, so there is less appetite to attract a large volume of borrowers with an eye-catching rate".
