First-time buyers are rushing to the property market for fear that prices might spiral out of control before they can get a foot on the ladder. But mortgage brokers said the problem was increasingly strict lending criteria.
Aaron Strutt of Trinity Financial, a broker, said: "Tougher rules around lending into retirement and a move away from interest-only mortgages have meant many of these products have become unaffordable for families".
