Borrowers are being warned to clean up their credit file as banks become even pickier about choosing their customers.

Credit files are used by banks to produce a customer’s ‘credit score,’ which determines whether or not they should be lent money.

Aaron Strutt, of broker Trinity Financial, says: ‘Most banks are not willing to offer mortgages to borrowers with a missed payment. Even late payments will be highlighted on your credit file and will count against you.’
