The Times - Banks tighten loan rules for self-employed mortgages
The number of people running their own businesses is rising sharply, but what does that mean if you want a mortgage?
Aaron Strutt, of Trinity Financial, the broker, told The Times : "Where businesses are well established, getting a loan approved is straightforward " as long as they're in profit.
If you have recently set up on your own, as hundreds of thousands have done in recent months, it could be a real problem." Mr Strutt adds Halifax will offer self-employed borrowers a mortgage if they have one year's accounts, but they must have an exceptional credit score.
